Raj Neravati was working in IT Industry for 17 years. He was working in the US in Cigniti Technologies on the position of Chief Operating Officer in the company and was living a happy and comfortable life there. However, the Nirbhaya incident Shooked him up. Through the incident, he was very disturbed and wondered if he could do to help the women’s and society in their safety.
“I was very disturbed and wondered what I could do. A Facebook post seemed like a futile exercise. Eventually, I decided to work on a solution that would help women in distress and moved back to India,” Raj said.
The Nirbhaya incident jolted the whole nation and Raj Neravati too and the incident emboldens him to use the technology in a process to create something for women’s safety. He wanted to develop a wearable device this time rather than some random mobile app which people download and forget about to use it at a point in time. He targeted to build something wearable device that would be convenient and handy to use when the one was in trouble. So he left his job and everything behind and shifted in India and started working on his plan to develop such wearable device that companion with the lifestyle and the people do not have to put extra efforts to understand to how to use it. He set up ADR Software in 2014.
Hug Innovations Funding and Investment:
Hug Innovations start was a sceptic as the journey’s beginning was not so smooth. But the start-up succeeded to raise funding from his friends and relatives and collected $1.4 million all over from bootstrapping. Although they faced several of challenges, but the determination was so firm and the result is in front of us know.
Recently the start-up grasped funding of $5 million in Series A from the Live Instant Funding second edition organized by The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE)- The Guardian Angel. The startup clinched the fund among the various start-ups. The start-up is planning to launch two new devices soon. Hope funding will help Hug Innovations in achieving the goal.
Biggest Challenges for Hug Innovations:
The route he decided to serve was not so easy numerous of challenges were waiting on the path of the success of Hug Innovation. The biggest challenges they faced was how to make the market of the device because he didn’t want the device to brand as a distress aid. They desired to do something in a unique style and introduced the device as a gesture reader device that can read gestures of hand.
We built in elements such as fitness, heart rate monitoring. We wanted to do something different and came up with a gesture platform that can read hand gestures. With this smartwatch, you need not press buttons or touch it. You can do everything from change songs to fly drones with a flick of the wrist,” Raj Neravati says.
Hug Innovations mainly focussed toward lifestyle category and invented a smartwatch that distinguishes the product from a smartphone and converged for the protection and integration of nutrition, health, or fitness regimes, personal safety and IoT gesturing.

As showing the time is the basic work of the smartwatch but it could work more than just showing a time. The user can change the interface and can customise it with self-accordance like the dialer and watch faces. It provides all the standard features – call management, dialling contacts, notification alerts from social media (WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn), e-mails and news. Including functionalities of heart rate monitoring, through the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms which alerts the user of an abnormality.
